OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Students from a metro school showed their compassion and caring for an Overland Park family who suffered a terrible loss.
Students at St. Thomas More Academy made a paper prayer chain. Each link had a message from a student to the family of 10-year-old Luke Bresette.
Luke attended school at the academy. He died Friday when a sign at the Birmingham, Ala., airport fell on him.
He and his family were returning from a spring break vacation.
Teachers at the school hope the prayer chain will help the Bresettes, as well as other students at the school who are grieving.
“The paper prayer chain is something everyone can do, even the preschoolers,” said Kelly Barry, Youth Director at the school. “If they don’t know how to write yet they can tell their teachers what they want to say and the teacher will put that on the strip for them,” she said.
Luke’s mom and two siblings were also injured when the monitor fell. The school also set up a fund to help the family.
