PLEASANT VALLEY, Mo. — The community demonstrated a big show of support for two families in the metro Thursday as they waited in line for hours to purchase specially designed Royals hats.

The hats, designed by Andrew Romano,  were made to honor 17-year veteran Fire Apparatus Operator Larry Leggio, and 13-year veteran firefighter John Mesh, 39.

Members of the community started lining up at 7 a.m., at Cumpy’s T-shirt Shop.  The line wrapped around the parking lot and down the street. Everyone was hoping to get their hands on a blue KCFD hat.

Cumpy’s doors opened early at 9:50 a.m. By 10:15 a.m., the store sold out of the hats. It had 200 in stock, and they went fast. People waiting in line say they want to support the families during this tragic time.

The hats are $25 each. All proceeds go to the families of Leggio and Mesh.

Cumpy’s says even though they sold out of the hats, they will be taking orders. They plan to continue making hats daily until all orders are filled.
