PLATTE CITY, Mo. — A metro man may be able to avoid jail time after killing a woman while he was high on the synthetic drug, K-2. A Platte County judge sentenced Logan Pope to three years in prison on Thursday. Pope previously pleaded guilty to killing 25 year-old Ashley Miller in October of 2012.
However, Pope is currently in a drug treatment facility. If he completes the program successfully, he will instead serve five-years of probation, plus community service.
FOX 4 was at the courthouse in October when Pope pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. He apologized to Miller’s mother, who tearfully accepted. Pope himself spent 42 days in the hospital and 10 weeks in a wheelchair as he recovered from 27 broken bones.
At his plea hearing, he told FOX 4 that the entire experience has given him a desire to become a nurse so that he can help others who have been hurt. He was also appreciative that Miller’s mother, Linda, accepted his apology.
“It was very important to me, but if she didn’t accept it, I would’ve still understood. She lost her daughter and if I was an adult and I had kids and I lost them, I don’t know if I would be able to accept the apology,” Pope said.
