PORTLAND, Maine — One puppy is finally home safe with his family after surviving nine days out in sub-zero temperatures.
Dempsey, a one-year-old boxer, was on a family holiday trip with his owners when he unexpectedly ran off. The family, who was unable to find him, was sadly forced to return home without the dog.
A few days later, Christine Pierce saw a missing pet poster of Dempsey online. She later discovered the dog outside in the cold. He was emaciated, hypothermic and he also had a broken leg.
Jamie Cyrway, Dempsey’s owner, said she was so thankful when she heard her family’s pet had been found alive after days of freezing weather.
“Oh my goodness, I’m so thankful, just so, so thankful,” said Cyrway. “I’m sure he feels like he was looking for us as much as we were looking for him.”
Cyrway credits Pierce for saving her puppy’s life.
“I’ve told her a million times she is Dempsey’s angel on earth, she really is,” said Cyrway.
The family plans to return home with Dempsey on Sunday.
