KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man says he saw his life flash before his eyes as 20 teens surrounded his car and fired several shots. He says it happened last night near the Kansas City County Club Plaza on Emanuel Cleaver Boulevard.
FOX 4 spoke with him on the phone, Sunday. He was here from California visiting his brother, and says he was trying to find a parking spot when something went horribly wrong.
“We were looking forward to just spending the one night together that we had before he left,” said Shane Vouga, who was waiting on his brother, Jordan’s arrival, when he got a phone call.
“In his voice I could just hear the panic,” Vouga said.
Vouga started to panic too, as Jordan told him he had just been shot at. He was trying to park near the corner of Emanuel Cleaver Boulevard and McGee when Jordan says a group of 20 teens surrounded his car.
Jordan says the teens all started yelling and he froze in the driver’s seat.
“They were in front of the car, to the sides of the car. He said at that point he knew something wasn’t right and he had a feeling something was going to happen,” said Vouga.
Jordan says one of teens fired three shots and one of the bullets hit his car.
“He just tore out of here. He almost hit some people and got into an accident because he was afraid for his life,” said Jordan’s brother.
Jordan pulled into Winstead’s parking lot and called 911. When police got on scene, they found several shell casings but the teens were gone.
“I hadn’t felt unsafe until this point,” he said.
While Vouga is thankful his brother wasn’t hurt, he can’t help but still be on edge when this sort of violence is happening right outside of his front door.
“I’d like to think it was an isolated incident, but at the same time, it’s still happening,” said Vouga.
