MERRIAM, Kan. — Police are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a train in Merriam early Wednesday morning.
According to police, the man was lying across the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks near I-35 and Johnson Drive when he was struck and killed by the train around 2 a.m.
Authorities say that the train engineer tried to stop the locomotive after seeing the man on the tracks, but was unable to stop in time.
The identity of the victim, identified only as a white male, has not been released. The accident remains under investigation.
