Kansas City Missouri Police Respond To River Market Residents Crime Concerns

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — People living in the River Market area are concerned about safety. FOX 4 did a ride along with Kansas City Police to see what a typical night in the area is like.

Officer David Kissee describes himself as the pro-active patrol. His goal is to identify the criminals before they strike. River Market resident Alex Ballinger moved to the area in 2011. She wrote police after her car was broken into and hearing the news about a rape and other crimes.

“If you don’t fix these things you are going to lose a lot of your downtown fun yuppies and artsy kids down here,” Ballinger said.

She was surprised when two Kansas City police officers came to her door to address the concerns in her letter. She tells us they offered her advice on staying safe and reporting suspicious activity in her neighborhood.

Ballinger says the best piece of advice officers gave her was to keep her phone out with her at all times when she is walking around. Police also advise residents to call 911 and not a non-emergency hotline.
