KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A young married couple is setting out to prove you can have it all. Thanks to Uncle Sam, the newlyweds will soon be stationed somewhere together.
Sydney and James Rash tied the knot Dec. 22. At 19 years old, they’re young, but deeply in love with each other and their country. So they decided to enlist together. The two took their oath of service Monday afternoon.
“I’m going to be in health care and my husband’s in special forces.”, said Sydney Rash. “It’s always been in both of our hearts to go that route.”
Thanks to the “Married Army Couples Program”, the two will likely spend little time apart. Nothing like husbands and wives when one isn’t enlisted. The program is designed for people like the Rash’s, who are eager and up to the challenge of balancing two military career and someday a family.
“It’s a benefit for us because it’s something we both wanted to do, it’s our dream, so we get into it together and that’s what really matters.” said James Rash.
Not much scares this couple, and that bodes well as they begin lives together and in defense of their country. And someday down the line, their own little ones to protect.
“We eventually want to start a family and that’s important to us to, we also want to keep serving too, no matter what, its very important.” said James Rash.
Sydney leaves for boot camp in April, James in July. They’ll have a few weeks together before beginning their training separated. The separation won’t last long, the Army will do all it can to get them stationed on the same base soon after basic training.
