Nuns Under Fire for Questionable Teachings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Nuns have been known to march in support of one cause or another, but now they’re the cause that needs some support. People gathered outside the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Kansas City on Wednesday to speak on a hot topic that’s important to them, supporting nuns in the Catholic church.

Linda Zeorlin of Overland Park  was one of the more outspoken people in Wednesday’s crowd.

“The women of the church, the religious women are one of the highest educated group of women over even our men and that’s scary,” Zeorlin said.

During an investigation in 2009, top leaders in the Catholic church ordered the Maryland based National Leadership Conference of Women Religious or LCWR to undergo a complete overhaul or disband.

LCWR represents more than 80 percent of the nation’s nuns. Many of whom church leaders say are questioning authority and teaching radical feminist themes instead of traditional teachings of the Catholic Church.

The editor of the National Catholic Reporter predicts these type of vigils are only the beginning of the heated debate.
