TUCSON, Ariz. — Authorities in the border city of Nogales, Arizona, believe smugglers were using an international sewage line to transport drugs from Mexico when the pipe became clogged, sending gallons of waste into a house and local businesses.

City officials discovered waste coming out the front door and the sides of the house near the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday.

City Manager Shane Dille says a video feed showed several bundles had gotten clogged in the sewer, forcing sewage through an underground tunnel connected to the house.

Dille says the house is a likely a complete loss, and two nearby businesses also were damaged. He says city officials have not been able to reach the tunnel or the sewer yet to extract what he believes are drug bundles.
