LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — One local woman is making sure the homebound get at least one good meal every day. Now one of her volunteers wants her to know how much she appreciates her hard work.
For nearly 20 years, Lee’s Summit shut-ins and the elderly get one good meal because of one good woman, Roberta McArthur.
“Roberta is just a selfless woman. She goes out of her way to give people these meals whether they can pay for them or not,” said Cindy Pepple.
And if not, Roberta finds the money.
“It’s all volunteer and donations and service projects. She is tireless to fundraise trying to get more scholarship people so they don’t have to pay,” Pepple said.
From Monday through Friday, Roberta and her volunteer drivers, pack up and deliver anywhere from 70-150 meals.
After counting out $300, we head into Martin Luther Lutheran church.
“Because you do so much for others I want you to do something for you, will you do that? Will you do that for just you? You know we love you, so many people do and they count on you,” Pepple told Roberta.
“Why? I didn’t do anything special, my drivers do, my volunteers do, I just organize them,” Roberta said.
She took over “One Good Meal” from her mother who recently died. She said she’ll likely use the money to get a pedicure.
