LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. – Prosecutors have charged GiAnni L. Henderson of Lee’s Summit, Mo., with a child restraint violation after her two-year-old daughter, who was traveling in a vehicle along with Henderson, a friend, and one other child on Sunday, fell out of the moving vehicle and onto the roadway.
Prosecutors also charged 30-year-old Henderson with failure to provide proof of insurance, a license plate violation, child endangerment, driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Emergency responders in Lee’s Summit were dispatched to where 50 Highway meets Chipman Road around 6 p.m. on Sunday. At the time of the incident, Henderson was traveling on the on-ramp, preparing to merge onto 50 Highway.
Police said the initial investigation revealed that as Henderson was making the turn onto the highway entrance ramp, her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, who was in the backseat, fell out of one the vehicle’s rear doors and onto the street. After emergency personnel arrived, the toddler was then transported to an area hospital for treatment and later released. Police said a second child was also riding in the backseat of the vehicle.
Friends and family of the driver say the woman, who initially helped the child until emergency crews arrived on the scene, was the friend of Henderson who had been riding with them in the vehicle.
