PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. — Police are investigating after a man was found shot to death in his Platte County home Saturday night.

Police identified the victim as 27-year-old Francisco Javier Vargas III. Vargas was found inside his residence in the 6000 block of Twin Springs Road in Platte County. He had been shot multiple times. The Metro Squad has been activated to assist with the investigation into his death.

Police said Vargas lived alone and that he leaves behind a child and a girlfriend.

This is the second homicide investigation in Platte County so far this year.

“It sounded like a thud and I’m not exactly sure what it was, but it was scary,” said a woman, who lives in the neighborhood in unincorporated, southern Platte County.

Several neighbors, who talked to FOX 4’s Robert Townsend about the crime Monday, asked that we not reveal their names because many had concerns about their own safety.

“I saw a woman I believe was his girlfriend and their young child there at the house multiple times,” said the neighbor.

As detectives with the Metro Squad searched Vargas’ backyard and drove around the neighborhood looking for possible clues connected to the crime, several longtime residents in the area hoped an arrest would come soon.

“It’s just sad, terribly sad,” said another woman, who’s lived in the neighborhood for almost 40 years.

Police tell FOX 4 there weren’t any signs of forced entry to the home.
