Police identify victim of fatal overnight shooting in North KC

NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man is dead, following an overnight shooting outside a bar early Saturday morning.

Police identified the victim as 37-year-old Stacy Conrad.

Dozens of people were leaving an area bar near 18th and Swift, around 2 a.m. Saturday, when witnesses say everyone just started running. They say a man came up to them and told them they better run too, because something was about get started. Then they said the shooters fired more than 50 shots while the dove for cover.

When police got on scene they located a man in the street, later identified as Conrad, who had been shot. A short time later, Conrad died at an area hospital.

“Really, what’s going on? Why do people do that? Is what I’m thinking.  Minutes later people are walking down the street like nothing happened, the squad cars and the ambulance and everything,” said witness David Steel. “It’s just like business as usual. That bugged me. I don’t need that. Not in my neighborhood. Not in anybody’s neighborhood.”

Some businesses in the area suffered some damage, including bullet holes and shattered glass.

Police say they have spoken with dozens of eye witnesses who were out in the parking lot at the time of the shooting, but have yet to make any arrests.
