KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Police have charged a man in connection to the death of Maurice B. Brown, who was shot multiple times on Saturday evening.
The Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Sunday that Steven C. Winters, 20, faces second degree murder and armed criminal action charges.
According to court documents, police found Brown shot multiple times inside a residence located in the 4900 block of College on Saturday night. Witnesses said they heard loud talking and gunshots then saw Winters standing over the victim holding a gun. The suspect allegedly threatened one witness with the weapon and then left the scene. He later threatened a second witness, forcing her at gunpoint to take him to 51st and Swope where he jumped out of the car.
Officers went to that location and said the suspect surrendered and confessed to the crime, saying he was afraid of the victim. Police later found the gun inside a closet.
