KANSAS CITY, Mo.–After taking a closer look at damage done to a juvenile jail, repair costs have been lowered to between $600 and $800, according to Diane Olmsted, a Deputy Court administrator with the Jackson County Family Court. Originally, it was thought damage would cost up to thousands of dollars.
On Monday, eight youths began destroying furniture and equipment at the juvenile jail located at 625 E. 26th Street in Kansas City, Mo. At one point, they began trying to get into cabinets that contained candy and soda while a staff member sat nearby, afraid to stop them. Police were called in, and able to stop them from damaging anything else.
Things damaged include a T-V, a DVD player, two metal cabinets, several light fixtures and a handful of ceiling tiles, according to Olmsted. She then said punishments for the youths involved will be determined by the juvenile officer, and the courts.
