KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tuesday is a historic day for both the Royals and Mets franchises. Each won their last World Series on October 27, in 1985 and 1986 respectively.
The Royals defeated the Cardinals, the Mets beat the Red Sox.
Royals fan Julie Fraley was a baby, when the Royals won it all. She lived her whole life in California. But her Dad was a Royals fan, so she became one, too. She boarded a train with a cast on her foot to make the trip to the game Tuesday.
She had her copy of the newspaper from 1985 with her celebrating the Royals championship.
She said she hoped to meet her favorites from that era such as George Brett, who was at the park throwing out the first pitch.
“It’s a dream, I want to go to the field of dreams and meet these guys and get this autographed, I’m blessed to be here,” Fraley said.
Mets fans, father and son, Todd and Ben Brown also travelled to Kauffman.
“It’s very important, it’s been a long time for us, 22 years for him,” Todd said. “I remember 1969 I remember 1986, but he doesn’t.”
The Mets 1986 series win was fueled by a Game 6 error by Boston’s Bill Buckner.
