Royals fans not happy about food quality at the K

KANSAS CITY, Mo – Buck Night at Kauffman stadium brings out a lot of hungry fans with an appetite for a good deal—but some say what they were served at the K on Friday was anything but appetizing.

“Brown, wilted look to them,” said Royals fan Neal Ross. “Buns were all soggy and burnt.”

It’s what Ross says saw before he took a big bite out of his hot dog. He and his 12 year old son often come to Buck Nights, where you can get hot dogs for a dollar.

“I’m not gonna eat that hot dog,” Alex Ross said. “Dollar hot dog, you’d expect to walk away with something that resembled a hot dog I guess.”

Neal Ross says he immediately took the hot dogs back.

“They kind of said well…it’s a dollar you get what you get,” he said.

And he wasn’t the only one. Dozens of viewers posted on our Facebook page about similar experiences. One man says he was served moldy, green bread on Friday too.

The K was already in hot water for some fans, as pictures of moldy food, bugs and mouse droppings around food stands surfaced and gathered national attention. That was during last year’s World Series, and stadium concessionaire Aramark claimed to have since cleaned up their act.

But on Opening Day, the KCMO Health Department found another critical violation.

“I’ve heard the rumors but never experienced it first hand until this situation. I would’ve thought they would step up their game a little bit,” Ross said.

Aramark released this statement to FOX 4 saying, in part:

“During Friday night`s game, where we served 63,000 hot dogs, the Kansas City Health Department was onsite to inspect our buck night hot dog operations and found no violations. We are aware of the images posted to social media and are in the process of investigating and contacting those guests to get more information.’

Neal Ross says he plans to file a formal complaint on Monday.

“If you can’t handle it don’t offer it,” he said. He adds that he’ll never stop going to the K, but hopes soon he can feel comfortable about his son eating there.

“You’re not asking for top notch cuisine necessarily, but it certainly should be better than what we saw,” said Ross.
