KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Rain threatens to play a factor in Tuesday’s opening game of the World Series, but fans say it won’t stop them from throwing a party.
Tents and ponchos are in high demand Tuesday evening. It’s been 30 years since the Royals have won a World Championship and a little rain won’t keep these diehards away.
The parking lots around Kauffman Stadium were filled with the usual cast of characters. Many of them were hiding under canopies and jackets, contending with crisp weather and damp stuff in the air, too.
It’s nearly a badge of honor for some of the Royals fanatics to outlast the harsh weather.
Topeka’s John Gonzalez says he showed up unprepared for the conditions so he recommends bringing provisions to the ballpark.
“Dress in your rain gear,” Gonzalez says. “Bring a tent if you have one. Come out and enjoy yourself. Prepare yourself and you’ll have a good time regardless of the weather.”
Other things to bring include dry socks in case your feet or shoes get wet. Also wear your Royals hats because no one wants a wet head when they’re trying to have fun.
