KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Logan Black and his dog, Diego, have been through some of the toughest times together.  In Iraq, Logan says the two worked together to find more than 200,000 pounds of weapons and explosives.

“My most frightening experiences in combat weren’t when I thought I was in trouble, it was when I thought Diego had been hurt,” Logan said when Fox 4 interviewed him in June 2012.

In June 2012, Logan wanted to find Diego.  He’d left the Army, and he missed his partner whom he credited with saving his life.  Less than two months later- logan and diego were reunited.

Wednesday, alongside former President Bill Clinton, Logan and Diego were honored with the Silver Veteran Award, and Logan spoke about his time helping people in Iraqi communities.

“Our greatest success came when we were good citizens,” he said.

The former President gave Logan and Diego personal praise.

“Logan, I thought, gave a magnificent speech,” Mr. Clinton said.

He discussed how soldiers like Logan and Diego who look for I.E.D.s are especially impressive to him.

“By the way it was much more dangerous to Logan and Diego than they let on here.  He is a real hero, and I’m grateful that you gave him this award,” Mr. Clinton said.

If Diego’s wagging tail was any indication, he was grateful too.
