Shawnee Mission School District announces new superintendent

SHAWNEE, Kan. — The Shawnee Mission School District Board of Education announced a new superintendent Monday. Board members voted to offer the position to Jim Hinson, Ed. D.

Hinson is presently the superintendent of the Independence Public School District in Independence, Mo., and said on Tuesday he’s leaving that district on good terms.

“It’s the ability to walk away from the district, and knowing it’s in a great place — that’s really satisfying for me,” he said. “If we have had not been able to accomplish goals here, if things weren’t going well, I wouldn’t be leaving the Independence School District.”

Across state lines, staff at the Shawnee Mission School District said they’re looking forward to working with Hinson.

“My colleagues on the board of education and I are pleased to welcome Dr. Hinson to Shawnee Mission,” said Board President Patty Mach. “We are very fortunate to have a lifelong educator with the stature, integrity and reputation of Dr. Hinson to lead the Shawnee Mission School District to the next level of student success.”

Prior to leading the Independence School District, Hinson served as superintendent in Granby, Mo., and Greenfield, Mo., and as principal and classroom teacher in Carthage, Mo.
