‘We are angry’: Shooting death of KCMO toddler sparks tears, outrage

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—A 3-year-old is dead after being shot in their own home during a drive-by shooting on Sunday morning.

The shooting happened at 67th and Walrond Avenue just after 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. According to Kansas City Missouri Police, someone shot into the home multiple times.

Family members told FOX 4 that four children were home at the time. The 3-yera-old was found dead at the scene.

“This is terrible. Think of this family, think of this mother, think of the father of this child,” said Sgt. Kari Thompson with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department.

Rosilyn Temple with Mother’s in Charge spent part of the afternoon with the toddler’s grieving mother.

“The family, the mother’s just… she’s broken down, she’s distraught, she’s angry, she doesn’t know what to think,” said Temple.

Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Sly James was at the scene. He said he wants the shooter locked up soon.

“This is crazy,” said Kansas City, Missouri Sly James.

“We need the entire city and citizens to rise up and say this is unacceptable,” said James. “We cannot allow people to drive up and down the streets of this city firing weapons into people’s houses and killing 3-year-olds, for Gods sake.”

Police are pleading for the public’s help to bring the innocent child’s killer to justice.

“We don’t have any suspect information that’s why we are asking your viewers to assist us in this. We cannot solve these cases by ourselves and we definitely need this community to help us,” said Thompson.

Something Temple said may only happen if someone talks.

“We are angry. We are angry today, our community should be angry too. So, we need someone to step up and speak up immediately,” said Temple.

Police have not yet released the child’s name. There is no word on any suspects in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
