BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — A little retail therapy for online shoppers means extra money for two local school districts. Blue Springs and Fort Osage school districts are now members of two different online contribution programs. The Blue Springs Education Foundation launched its website, shop4bluespringsSchools three weeks ago. The site partners with over a hundred retailers, but the best part is, a portion comes back to the school. Katherine Barton is the Executive Director of the foundation and says this is an easy way to support the students and staff in the district.
“We would not have this money otherwise and we are not sending students out to sell things,” said Barton.
Fort Osage School District is also earning money with each mouse click. The district is a member of the Shop and Contribute program. By simply going to the Fort Osage Resource Champion Education of F.O.R.C.E. web page you are ready to purchase from your favorite retailer with a portion of the proceeds going to the school. The percentage donated to the schools can range from three percent to eleven percent, depending on the vendor. Stephanie Smith is the Communications Director for the school district and says the district is excited to see how the program does.
“We know people shop online and if you can give a little back to Fort Osage schools and staff, what better way to do it,” said Smith.
Both school districts have indicated that a portion of the donations will go to funding teacher grants. In Blue Springs you can designate a specific school or the district as a whole for the donation.
