KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A record 89 million Americans took advantage of Black Friday deals last year, and experts forecast this year to be even busier.

In fact 60 percent of consumers this year said they plan to do the majority of their holiday shopping in November, and more retail stores then ever plan to open ahead of Black Friday.

Shoppers like April Lavis, a mom of two, said strategizing your shopping trip and knowing what and where you plan to buy ahead of time can really pay off.

“I have everything mapped out as well as each store I’m going to,” Lavis explained.

Local retailers urge shoppers to get to stores as early as possible in order to score the best deals, which can mean leaving the house as early as the day of Thanksgiving.
