KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating after a body was found near Longview Road and Richmond in south Kansas City, Mo., Wednesday morning.
Police Captain Steve Young said officers were called to the area to get information on a missing teenage boy. When police arrived, they found a body buried outside.
The mother of a 14-year-old boy who has been missing since Sunday told FOX 4 that she’s trying to stay strong and positive with the help of her family and friends.
Late Wednesday, the mother said she believes the body found is that of her missing son, although police were waiting to positively ID the body, which could come as early as Thursday morning.
“Sunday afternoon Montee had left with his brother to go to the store. He did not return home. It is not like for him to run away, to not come back to communicate anything,” said Alicia Temple, mother of the missing 14-year-old boy.
Temple said on Sunday, her son, Montee Ross, separated from his brother and went off with another boy her younger son didn’t know.
Temple said she, along with family and friends were out in the neighborhood where the body was discovered, passing out fliers. She said friends had helped get the word out about her son on facebook and Instagram.
Police took in an unknown number of people to the police department for questioning.
“Montee was very adventurous and curious. He was outgoing. He liked animals. He was a very good entrepreneur. he could make money with anything,” Temple said of her son. “Whatever you go, he could sell it…. He was a good kid and he would never do anything like this. He wouldn’t run off,” she said.
A source close to the investigation initially told FOX 4 that a 14-year-old boy’s older brother accidentally shot and killed the teen, and enlisted the help of a friend to bury him.
“That’s totally incorrect. That source came from his school,” she said. “But he was not with his brother playing with a gun. He was going to the store with his brother when he then decided to leave his brother and go with a friend. They departed their ways and he has not been seen since,” Temple said.
