OLATHE, Kan. — An Olathe repair shop is seeing a huge surge in business. That’s because they decided to advertise during the Super Bowl.
Mission Repair specializes in fixing Apple I-pods, I-Phones and I-pads. Customers started lining up outside the small storefront on Monday morning as soon as it opened. Many have phones, tablets or other gadgets with cracked and broken glass screens. They thought their expensive electronics were destined for the trash can until they watched the Super Bowl.
Mission Repair has been fixing popular products for the last four years. Owner, Ryan Arter says despite word-of-mouth and a good reputation, customers kept telling him they didn’t know he existed. That’s why Arter decided to take an expensive chance and spend $20,000 on two 15-second t-v ads during the big game.
“I am still very nervous about it,” Arter said. “Making that decision to pull the trigger, it was down to the wire. I was working with the network, I had cold feet until the very last minute. Even yesterday I was a nervous wreck until it ran. ”
On Monday morning, his decision seemed to be paying off. There was a surge of walk-ins and phone orders were steady all day. Kansas City had the ninth highest ratings in the nation for the Super Bowl broadcast. Arter says he has more than 250 emails to read.
Now, he’s giving his business a big boost at the same price he pays to send his daughter to college for a year.
“Our goal is to keep devices in operation,” Arter said. “We don’t want to see them in landfill. We don’t want people to have to feel they have to go buy a new device. When they crack the screen, we’re here for that.”
Customers say they’re breathing easier just knowing there’s hope for broken devices. Mission Repair already repairs about 150 I-PADS a week. The average repair cost for all devices is about $80.
