KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter and three counts of reckless aggravated battery related to a January 30 crash that killed a teenage girl and injured three other teens, Tamika Pledger sought to dismiss those charges on Tuesday. Pledger filed a writ to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction and order to show cause on Tuesday morning.
The criminal department of the Wyandotte County district court confirmed it received the filing on Tuesday. Pledger concludes in her writ that she wants to know the nature of the court and the nature of her charges, and whether the court can prove jurisdiction.
Pledger is accused of running down the four teenagers in her car, 16-year-old Tierra Smith died as a result of her injuries. Pledger claimed she was on her way to stop a fight involving her cousin. She was jailed on January 30 and posted bond on February 2.
The criminal department says that Pledger is due back in court at 9 a.m. on March 31.
