Teenage girl arrested for allegedly luring mom into closet, stabbing her with a butcher knife

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police say a 15-year-old girl stabbed her own mother with a butcher knife on Thursday night in the 9000 block of N. Lane Avenue in Kansas City.

Neighbors were shocked by news of the stabbing, saying that the crime rate in the neighborhood is nearly non-existent.

“It’s been great, we’ve met quite of a few of the neighbors. We got invited to a Halloween party, everyone was really nice,” resident Vanessa Pacheco said.

But Pacheco said she’d never met her neighbors a few houses down, and she didn’t even know their names until Friday. Neighbors said they saw five police cars surround their home.

Investigators say the teenage girl asked her mom to come into her walk-in closet, and when she did, police say she stabbed her in the chest with a butcher knife. The mother pulled the knife out of her chest and called 911.

The mom then went downstairs to wait for help and when police arrived to the home, investigators say the 15-year-old was sitting, waiting at the top of the stairs.

“I’m going to be afraid for my kids for my family and for the other families,” Pacheco said.

Although Pacheco had never met them, nearby neighbors say the family is wonderful and that this is completely out of character.

A teen that lives nearby says the suspect is a Liberty High School student who usually kept to herself. The mother is recovering at a hospital and her family is asking for privacy. As it stands, potential charges are going to be processed through juvenile court.
