KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Biebs or no Biebs? That’s the question millions of Justin Bieber fans are asking themselves after a high-profile arrest. Many may not realize he basically got his start right here in Kansas City.
Mix 93.3 DJ Dave O. put on the old-school Montreal Expos jersey on purpose. He knew he’d be busy Thursday afternoon with the Justin Bieber craziness.
Native Canadian Justin Bieber is in the hot seat after his arrest in Miami. The 19-year-old is charged with DUI, drag racing and resisting arrest. When his mug shot was released, social media and the airwaves blew up.
“I think that’s taking it a little too far, that’s not good behavior.” said one caller.
Dave O took call after call and most fans agreed, Bieber messed up.
“I saw him on the news smiling, I don’t know, you get a mug shot you’d think you’d be a little upset,” explained another caller.
One mother has had it with everyone but Christina Aguilera.
“She hasn’t gone off the rails yet, ok, that would be the only one I’d let my children listen too, everybody else there’s no way.”
Dave O. understands the outcry.
“Got to be kind of a let down to parents who took their kids and shelled out the big money for the concert and the t-shirts and iTunes and to see this happen got to be heartbreaking,” he said.
But he isn’t ready to give up on Biebs. He and the rest of the crew at Mix 93 have known Bieber since the beginning, his first concert at Red, White and Boom in 2009.
“We had to basically push him on stage, he was a nervous wreck, but he went out there and killed it,” Dave O explained.
Now a few years later, his mug shot invaded TV screens, Instagram and Twitter accounts everywhere. Fans, parents and Dave O all hope this is rock bottom and he gets the help he needs.
Bieber is out of jail after posting a $2,500 bond.
