TOPEKA, Kan. — A 15-year-old is praying for a miracle. The Topeka teen isn’t sure how much longer she’ll live.
Morgan Kottman has a brain tumor that won’t stop growing. Friends, family, strangers and even a Royals player are showing her, her support is endless.
“We really don’t know how long she has. Her goal is to make it to her birthday. April 22nd. She’ll be 16. But first she wants to get to Christmas,” said Morgan’s mom, Christine Kottman.
It started last year. Their daughter, Morgan, complained of headaches that seemed never ending. They took her to the hospital.
“She said ‘tumor.’ That began our nightmare,” Morgan’s dad, Jerry Kottman, said.
They’ve tried everything; radiation, chemo. But the tumor won’t stop growing. They decided to move Morgan home where she’s most comfortable.
“I feel great. I got to get up, go to church, take a shower. I got to eat. I’m gonna have Olive Garden for dinner. Isn’t that awesome?” Morgan said.
Morgan has remained positive with a calming, and grateful spirit despite it all.
“I’ve talked to my pastor so I feel comfortable with my life, like how it’s gonna work out,” she said.
Her house is always packed with friends and family but recently her support system quadrupled.
A family friend started a Facebook page called Miracles for Morgan. Already it has more than 7,000 likes from people all over the world.
“They help support me and that means a lot to me,” said Morgan.
“She wants to know where her phone is and she wants to read the page. Her friends will come and she will read every comment on there,” Morgan’s mom, Christine Kottman said.
But a few days ago, there was a comment that Morgan will never forget.
Royals player Mike Moustakas liked the page and told his followers to do the same. Vowing if they got Morgan to 10,000 likes, the 10,000th person would get an autographed card.
“I was really surprised that he did, because he’s Mike Moustakas. How weird is that?” said Morgan.
Her family isn’t surprised at all by the attention the page has gotten, because they always knew their miracle has been Morgan all along.
“I feel good because I’m me,” she said.
