INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Shake your tail feathers, friends. Wednesday morning a FOX 4 viewer woke up to “loud squawking.” When she went to investigate, she spotted this:
We think it’s a white peacock. If it’s yours, it’s currently in the area of 1200 S. Franklin Drive in Independence, Mo. After seeing the bird on FOX 4 News, a viewer contacted us and said the bird’s owner is her neighbor.
According to Mark Alford, peacock expert extraordinaire, the male bird is called a peacock. A female is called a peahen. We aren’t sure if this is actually a male or a female, but since peacock is the term most people are familiar with this, we’re calling it that.
Neighbors stood watch and took appropriate action.
“Get the cat in the house,” Randy Shelton said. “I came out back, looked up in the tree and there’s a five-foot bird in the tree.”
After a few hours in the tree, the peacock hopped down and ran through the neighborhood near Glenwood and Truman in Independence.
A 1:30 p.m. update: The peacock is in the tree, after wandering away from his owner’s backyard on Monday.
