KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Mo., crews have been clearing neighborhood streets for the second time. Except, some in the neighborhood of Waldo say, they are still waiting for the first pass. So, they’ve taken matters into their own hands.
Neighbors in Waldo have banded together — not to dig out their own driveways, but to shovel out the city street where they live. Many say they haven’t seen a plow come by since the first storm struck Thursday.
“The main streets it seems like they get really good,” Jonathan Rhodes said. “Residential streets are not doing really well. I just paid my taxes on Monday, so I’m really mad now.”
FOX 4 actually had to help one man get his car into his driveway after he got stuck on 83rd Street near Main.
Tony Ginestra said it’s frustrating when he sees clear pavement a half-block away and still not be able to leave his home.
“It seems like once you can get out of the neighborhood, you’re good. But the key is getting out,” he said.
The city said residential plows make a single pass down each side street, but don’t clear snow down to the pavement. After the city finishes its routes from the second storm, crews will begin to respond to citizen requests.
Waldo streets are particularly challenging for city crews because they are narrow. But, neighbors said they’ve made sure their cars are off the streets so a plow can get through.
