SHAWNEE, Kan. — Police in Shawnee released a description of a man who they believe may have tried to kidnap a sixth grade boy on Friday from the area of 74th and Bond streets in Shawnee.

The boy told investigators that he was walking home from school when the driver of a red SUV tried to force him to go with him. The boy escaped and ran home.

“It may just be people who grab kids there, but who knows what else they might do to the adults too or the others they run into,” said Cal Taylor, who lives nearby.

“I never see trouble really happen around here,” said Augustine Aguelria, another neighbor. “Sometimes the cops come in here for maybe for people who don’t pay their rent or something, but I never see something hard.”

Police say the suspect is between the ages of 28-35 years, 5’10” tall with shoulder-length dreadlocks and possibly with beads in his hair.

Police think the SUV could have been a Cadillac Escalade or a GMC Denali.
