RIO DE JANIERO — They used to say that there are some things in life that you just can’t put a price tag on. Apparently, virginity is no longer on that list – as a Brazilian student has auctioned off hers for $780,000.
A Japanese man identified only as “Natsu” beat out strong competition from American and Indian bidders for the right to have a “date” with 20-year-old physical education student Catrina Migliorini, who auctioned off her virginity in an online auction, the New York Daily News reports.
Migliorini says that she will be using the money to build homes for poverty-stricken families in Brazil. The auction, which drew a total of 15 bids, sparked controversy around the globe, with some people claiming that she was only being a prostitute – a charge that Migliorini denies.

“If you only do it once in your life then you are not a prostitute, just like if you take one amazing photograph it does not automatically make you a photographer,” said Migliorini told Folha newspaper in Brazil. “The auction is just business, I’m a romantic girl at heart and believe in love. But this will make a big difference to my area.”
According to the Daily News, the winning bidder – who retains the right to remain anonymous – will be required to use a condom and be tested for sexually-transmitted diseases prior to the “date.”
A Brazilian man, identified only as Alexander, also sold off his virginity in the same online auction. The winning bid was $3,000.
