WINTER PARK, Fla. — No one ever wants to get a pink slip. Being told “you’re fired” is never easy to hear. Having to read the words in a text message stings even more.

That’s what happened to a Winter Park, Fla., woman. Jodi Jackson received a text message from the owner of Barducci’s Italian Bistro where she worked as a chef. Gregory Kennedy informed her he was forced to close the restaurant — effective immediately. That meant Jackson was now without a job. A dozen other employees received the same text message — and say they’re still waiting to receive their final paycheck.

Jackson said it was “immoral” and “cowardice” to be told she no longer had a job in a text message.

WFTV reached out to Kennedy for comment. He responded via text:

“Unfortunately businesses are forced to close across Orlando every day especially in the restaurant sector. I am working to resolve issues including final paychecks as quickly as possible.”
