TONGANOXIE, Kan. – Police in Tonganoxie are asking for more information after a young boy said a man tried luring him into a truck by saying he had a puppy with him. Neighbors say they don’t like the idea of a possible prowler on the loose.
Monday afternoon around 3:15, a middle schooler walking home from school says a man in a pick-up asked if he wanted a puppy. It was at the intersection of 12th and Delaware- in this family-filled neighborhood, where kids regularly walk to and from school.
The middle schooler ran away, saying he felt as though the man wanted to lure him into his truck.
“A little disturbed because we never had anything like this, at least for a long time, and this is a very quiet neighborhood,” said Kimberly Leffert.
Leffert says she regularly rides her bike through this intersection with her children, and she hates knowing there may be a predator in the area.
“I will definitely be letting everyone that I know that lets their kids walk home about that if they haven’t already been informed about that,” said Leffert.
Police are looking for a white man in his 20’s with brown hair and a brown beard. He was driving a black pickup truck, which may have been a Ford F-250.
