KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs won their preseason opener Thursday night, beating the Cincinnati Bengals 41-39 at Arrowhead. It was far from perfect, but it was entertaining.  After falling behind 10-0, the Chiefs answered with a pair of explosive plays only a few seconds apart. Rookie De’Anthony Thomas returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown.

“We just been working hard in our training camp,” Thomas said after the game. “And a lot of guys, we just want to win, go out there, have fun, just play as a team.”

On the Bengals next offensive snap, Sean Smith stepped in front of a pass and raced the other way with a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The Chiefs also had a 69-yard touchdown pass from Chase Daniel to tight end Travis Kelce and another pick-6 in the third quarter by Malcolm Bronson.

“Some big plays, which are good, offensively, defensively and on special teams,” said Head Coach Andy Reid “From young guys that will contribute this year and help us out so that was a positive.”

The Chiefs resume practice at Training Camp in St. Joseph on Saturday morning. Their next preseason game is next Sunday night August 17th right here on FOX 4.
