LAWRENCE, Kan. — At times it looked easy, and at other times, not so much. On Monday night it was a chore for the Kansas Jayhawks (22-6, 13-2), who wrapped up at least a share of their 10th-straight Big 12 Championship with an 83-75 win over the Oklahoma Sooners (20-8, 9-6).
Kansas got double-digit scoring from all five starters, including a game-high 19 from point guard Naadir Tharpe. Freshmen Andrew Wiggins and Wayne Selden each poured in 15 points. The margin was victory was one point more than when the two teams met in early January in Norman, but the contest itself was an entirely different story.
After trailing by 11 points in the early portionis of the game, the Sooners eventually took a one-point lead in the first-half. But the Jayhawks ended the first 20 minute session with a 10-0 run, and lead 42-33 at the half.
Oklahoma then took a four-point lead in the second half, thanks to the three-point shooting of Buddy Hield, and the offensive leadership of Cameron Clark. Clark led Oklahoma with 18 points, while Hield scored 16.
The Sooners next play Saturday at home against Texas. Kansas next travels to Stillwater to meet Oklahoma State, where they hope to clinch the Big 12 title outright with a sweep of the Cowboys.
