LAWRENCE, Kan. — The heat didn’t slow down five golfers at the Lawrence Country Club golf course, as the group completed The 100 Hole Hike for two Douglas County organizations. The Fundraising concept began in two years ago in Colorado, and according to its website, last year golfers around the country raised close to half a million dollars for various charities.
In Lawrence the clubs were swinging for the Douglas County Court Appointed Special Advocates or CASA and Dazzlers Christian Dance. Collectively the group raised about $20,000 before tee-ing off. One of the women taking part today, Cathy Shenoy, A Finance Professor at the University of Kansas.
“I’m just happy to be here, happy to be playing golf and happy to be supporting the community,” said Shenoy.
The golfing began around 5:30AM, and despite temperatures in the 90’s, the pace stayed fast. Kristen Samp, A Class A teaching pro at the Lawrence Country Club is also out for the effort.
“We are playing each round in about two hours,” said Samp. “We’re walking too, so that doesn’t happen normally.”
After finishing his third round of golf, Harry Herrington must change shirts again, for the third time.
“Coming out here and playing 108 holes of golf, six rounds of golf in 95 degree weather, that’s nothing when you can see what you are doing for the kids,” said Herrington.
All the money raised will be split between the two groups.
