KANSAS CITY, Mo — The Kansas Jayhawks got a huge win over the Baylor Bears on Wednesday night. The 10th ranked Jayhawks notched a 68-54 victory over the 6th ranked Bears in front of a sold out crowd in Waco, Texas.
Their win over Baylor (21-3, 8-3 Big 12) keeps Kansas (19-5, 9-2 Big 12) tied with the 4th ranked Missouri Tigers (22-2, 9-2 Big 12) for 1st place in the Big 12.
When Baylor came to Lawrence in January, the Jayhawks opened up the game with a thunderous alley-oop to Thomas Robinson en route to a 92-74 victory. On Wednesday, Baylor opened up the game in similar fashion with an alley-oop to Perry Jones III. KU got punched in the mouth early. Their largest deficit was nine points in the first half. The Jayhawks then went on a 34-5 run and never let Baylor back in the game.
After scoring zero points in a 73-70 loss to the Tigers in Columbia on Saturday, Kansas center Jeff Withey returned with a vengeance. He set a career high Wednesday with 25 points. Junior forward and National Player of the Year candidate Thomas Robinson delivered his 17th double double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Baylor point guard Pierre Jackson led the Bears with 16 points.
Currently, the Big 12 conference title appears to be a two-team race between Missouri and Kansas.
