KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In Friday morning’s news conference at Arrowhead, the Chiefs announced quarterback Alex Smith will not play Sunday due to a lacerated spleen.

Smith was injured in last Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Until after I showered up, even dressed, the adrenalin kind of got out of me. I kind of noticed some discomfort for sure in my stomach area. Pressure, cramping. I thought it was something I ate. I didn’t necessarily relate it to
a hit, but definitely discomfort down there,” Smith said in the news conference.

The Chiefs play the Chargers Sunday at Arrowhead in the final regular season game.
