ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — It never hurts to ask.
That’s the lesson LaVance Taylor is sharing after the undrafted running back from the University of Central Missouri was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday one day after sending a link to his YouTube highlight video to the team via Twitter on Wednesday.

One day later, the Chiefs signed the Raytown High School grad and former UCM Mules star to a contract. He joined the team at training camp in St. Joseph on Friday.
“This is what I was trying to do, this remained my ultimate goal, so I guess everything happens for a reason,” said Taylor to reporters on Friday. Taylor’s father, LaVoid Taylor, convinced him to take a chance with the video.
“Me and LaVance were sitting here and I said, ‘Vance, you have to sell yourself man,” said LaVoid Taylor. “He went out and he Tweeted everybody that even walked, just to see if they would listen, and the next day, he got the phone call.”
That phone call came from the hometown team.
“I almost had a heart attack. Because I`ve been wanting this just as bad as him,” said LaVoid Taylor.
LaVance Taylor first turned heads on the gridiron while a student at Raytown High School.
“When you watch him play and you watch how he handles himself, it`s a person that loves the game of football to his core,” said Raytown High football coach Kevin Page.
His family says that they’re hoping he makes the final cut and gets to wear a Chiefs jersey in the regular season.
“He already knows what I’m going to tell him: 100 percent. Give it everything you got, focus and finish. When you do everything you can, leave it all on the field, because whatever happens after that, you gave it your best,” said LaVoid Taylor.
