KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Royals got another strong performance out of Bruce Chen en route to a 5-1 victory over Boston on Thursday night. In addition to a lot of fun on the field, some fans came for social media night.

It was a funny site, walking into the right-field sports bar Rivals and the huge crowd all had their heads down, eyes fixed on their phones. But, thanks to some personality and dry wit, Jeremy Guthrie showed everyone a great time.

Guthrie, or @TheRealJGuts as he’s known on Twitter, took questions from the audience along with Royals’ broadcaster Joel Goldberg. The live crowd tweeted questions to Guthrie and he answered them, usually with a bit of humor.

Fans wanted to know why he likes shoes, which Royals player is the best on Twitter and much more. Guthrie is among several players who really enjoy the fan interaction…fans like Carlos Guerrero who made a point of being here tonight – feels the same way.

“I’ve been very impressed by players especially Royals players they seem to be a little more open and they seem to be down to earth kind of people,” Guerrero said.

While Thrusday night may have been the only sanctioned social media night at Kauffman this year, if you want to interact and follow Royals players on Twitter, follow this link.
